This story made me a bit sad… it tells the story of Sofia who loved her teddy bear a lot, it first belonged to her grandfather, then her mother and then her. One day she and her father go to the faraway beach when a sudden rainstorm erupts, they head back and the bear is left on the beach, they search for it, go back to it but with no result. The sea sees the bear and decides to give it back to the young girl, after a long journey, the bear is found by a young girl who shows it to her grandmother who cries saying that this is her lost bear. The story bottom line is we don’t know how or where we will get what we lost. It’s bittersweet and deep.
جعلتني هذه القصة حزينة بعض الشيء … إنها تحكي قصة صوفيا التي أحبت دبدوبها كثيرًا، فقد كان ملكًا لجدها أولاً، ثم والدتها ثم لها. ذات يوم تذهب هي ووالدها إلى الشاطئ البعيد عندما تندلع عاصفة قوية مفاجئة، ويعودون ويتركان الدب على الشاطئ، يبحثون عنه لاحقاً، ويعودون الى الشاطئ ولكن دون نتيجة. يرى البحر الدب ويقرر إعادته للفتاة الصغيرة، وبعد رحلة طويلة، عثرت فتاة صغيرة على الدب وتريه لجدتها التي تبكي قائلة إن هذا هو دبها الضائع. خلاصة القصة هي أننا لا نعرف كيف أو أين سنحصل على ما فقدناه. إنها قصة حلوة ومرة وعميقة.

بعدما انقشعت العاصفة، جلس الدب وحيداً على الشاطئ الواسع الخالي. ولم يرى أحد ما حل به إلا البحر.
لم أكن متأكدة كيف سأبدأ بكتب هذه المراجعة. الكتاب مكتوب بصورة واضحة ويهتم بقضايا معاصرة لا نعرف عنها الكثير. يتحدث عن الحرب والظلم والهجرة واللجوء السياسي والوضع المعاصر في العراق والموت وداعش. الكتاب مكتوب بصورة جيدة وسلسلة ولكنني لم أحب هذا العمل ككل. مشكلتي الأساسية مع الكتاب أن الشخصية الرئيسية لم تعجبني. وهذا للأسف يجعل العمل لا يصل إلى قلب القارئ. أنا أهتم كثيراً بقراءة الكتب التي تتمحور حول معاناة العرب في مناطق الحروب والدول المنكوبة وخصوصاً المسلمين في أنحاء العالم. وجدت أن الشخصية الرئيسية سعيد يكره الدين كثيراً وغير مؤمن وبهذا فعل الكثير من الفواحش بنظري. أسوءها بالنسبة لي أهتمامه الغريب بأبيه الذي لم يقابله في حياته ومعاملته السيئة لأمه… أنتظرت طوال الكتاب أن يبعث لها بطاقة سفر وأن يحسن من وضعها. أمه عانت كثيراً من الفقد والقلق والحزن والكسر والفراق وبرأي عانت أيضاً أنا ابنها كان كالحجر لا يهمه غير نفسه ومتعته وحريته وسعادته وزواجه.
كانت هويتي تحمل الرقم سبعمائة وسبعة وسبعين، وسينادونني بعد ذلك: سبعة سبعة سبعة. لم أكن مكترثاً لما سينادونني به واقعاً، إذ ما دمت سأحصل على سرير دافئ في وطن آمن، فلا ضير إن أمسيت ثلاث سبعات، أو تسع خمسات، أو صفراً على الشمال حتى. لقد امتلكت فيما مضى أسماء كثيرة، لكنها لم تجلب لي الدفء. منحتني أمي، مثلاً، اسم سعيد، فكنت يتيماً مكسور الخاطر، لم أر السعادة يوماً في حياتي. منحتني المدينة التي اندلق فيها رأسي لقب ابن دار السلام، فنشأت خائفاً أترقب الحرب متى تنتهي، لتشتعل أخرى أشد ضراوةً وأكثر قبحاً. منحني التاريخ ألقاباً كثيرة، كابن الرافدين، وحفيد جلجامش، وابن خالة حمورابي، لكني لم أجن من تلك الألقاب سوى الخيبة والانكسار.

القصة مقسومة إلى جزيئن: جزء واقعي وجزء خيالي. هناك أيضأ قفز بين الحاضر والماضي. بين الذكريات والرغبات والروتين. تدور القصة حول سعيد الذي كان يعيش في العراق وقت حكم صدام حسين الذي لم يناديه بأسمه قط وذكره إما رمزاً أو بالطاغية. يمزح سعيد حول صدام مع زميل له على ما يبدو من المخابرات مما يجعل أمه وخاله وابن خاله يبعثونه تهريباً إلى الأردن حيث يعيش هناك بصعوبة. يذهب أيضاً بصورة غير قانونية في رحلة طويلة ومضنية حتى يصل إلى النوريج بحثاُ عن النساء والسلام. يقع في حب مدرسته ويتزوجها ثم يكتشف أنها مريضة بالسرطان وتموت بعد هجره ويبدأ بأخذ دواء مخدر بطريقة ادمانية تجعله يقع في هلوسات كثيرة عن ابيه والعودة الى العراق. ينتهي الكتاب بموت سعيد لوحده في شقته واكتشاف مسودة لهذه القصة التي قامت مديرته بنشرها وقبره في حقل الكرز مع جاره. النوم في حقل الكرز يرمز الى الحياة بهدوء والموت بهدوء حتى يعود أو يقوم الشخص على أخر مكان نام فيه.
كانت تلك أول رواية أقتنيها في حياتي، جعلتني مدمناً على القراءة، حالماً بدخول كلية الآداب. لقد شعرت، بعد الفراغ منها، بأن نزار الشيطان لم يغوتي بإرتياد شارع السعدون وحب السينما فحسب، بل كان سبباً وراء شغفي بإقتناء الكتب. لكن ذلك الشغف كان يقتل أمي، إذ يزداد خوفها ويتراءى لها مصير أبي كلما رأت كتاباً بيدي… لا تحب الحكومة قراء الكتب، كانت تقول.
أكثر جزء أعجبني ولو كان خيالاً هو ما تخيله سعيد عن وضع العراق المستقبلي. حتى وإن لم يحدث. كما أحببت رؤية معنى الهجرة الغير الشرعية المشروحة بالتفصيل بالقصة.
كنت محتارة في تصويتي بين ثلاث نجوم ونجمتين والسبب جمل مثل هذه تفضل هذا عرق قديم يحي العظام وهي رميم لاعنا تلك الساعة التي قرر الله فيها ان يخلقه عراقيا واضحا بان الرب الذي كانت تخاطبه امي يعرف بالضبط ماذا تريد منه ان يفعل بان القدر اللعين سيكون لهذا الحلم بالمرصاد

My Review:
I have always fantasized about visiting India and going for an adventure just like the one Kelsey had… This book is beautiful, magical and exotic, just like something I would imagine myself going through. The cover is gorgeous, and I’m dying for book 2. This book made me want to visit India even more. And the whole Indian costumes and food description is mouthwatering! I think this book is a must for all adventure seekers who love exotic places and tigers! I loved the part when Fanindra the snake came alive and became a bracelet on Kelsey’s arm, it reminded me of the old golden Indian jewelry. I LOVE this book! I hated how Kelsey treated Ren. She was stupid, weak and so self-conscious! She should have had more faith in him. He is a great guy, I find him very charming and irresistible and HOT. But I get her… Sometimes falling in love that hard can be very scary and dangerous.

My Review:
Kelsey returns home to Oregon, where Mr. Kadam has enrolled her in college, but danger sends her back to India to begin another quest, this time with Kishan, to try to break the curse that forces Kishan and his brother Ren to live as tigers.
Quite frankly, I’m disappointed by this book so far [Thursday, December 22, 2011]. When I finished Tiger’s Curse, I ordered this book and couldn’t wait to receive it.
The beginning until chapter 9 is funny and romantic, but then comes Kishan and Kelsey’s adventure, but for some reason I couldn’t get into it. And it’s not only because of Kishan’s extra feelings, it’s just that the book, till now [chapter 20 – p.340] is not as good as book 1. 9 chapters left [139 pages left]. I’ll write my final review then, something might happen and change my mind.
[Sunday, January 01, 2012] I felt that the romance between Kelsey and Kishan was so forced, and their adventure was boring. When they went to rescue Ren I wasn’t convinced that they couldn’t take Lokesh. I felt the author left him flee to make another few books. I couldn’t see him as evil though she tried to convince us he is by comparing him to many famous evil characters including Lord Voldemort.
One of the things I hated all through the book was Kelsey’s way of talking to men, the way she called them Superman and Casanova was such a cliché and silly!
All in all the book doesn’t deserve 5 stars or even 4 stars for that matter. But the only redeeming thing I found here is that I am longing for Ren and Kelsey to remain together. And I adore Durga’s quests. The whole adventure in India concept is mesmerizing to me.

My Review:
[Sunday, January 15, 2012] Remember in book two when Kelsey had her last dream of Ren and she didn’t recognize him from all the torture he’s been through, he told her he doesn’t think he’ll make it, but there is only one way he could but the price is so high, Kelsey begged him to take it no matter what. I think the price is their love and memories. In order to survive, he has to forget her.
I just started with this book but that’s what I think happened with Ren; Oh and Kishan is growing on me, but don’t tell Ren!
I loved the Star Festival!! I want to attend one in Japan!! But I hated Kelsey’s poem, I think Colleen Houck can’t write poetry. Her “Love is Grooming” poem was repulsive.
[Monday, October 15, 2012] I reached chapter 15 and I’m deeply in LOVE with this book!! I loved it! It reminded me of my feeling when I read the first book… Can’t wait to see what will happen next… By the way, I’m still rooting for Ren!
[Friday, January 04, 2013] The ending was good, especially that so many parts were slow… I really hate Kelsey sometimes, there is no need for pain, pick the one you truly love: REN and stop all that sacrifice bull! Thank God I got the 4th book 3 weeks ago, I can read what will happen to Kelsey and Ren now without waiting for another year!! Because let me tell you this: the cliffhanger in the end KILLS.

[Thursday, October 10, 2013] As every bookaholic knows, sometimes there are many great books out there that you want to read at once. But sometimes there are unfinished books that you feel guilty not finishing. So I decided to wrap-up all the unfinished books and start fresh next year in 2014. Besides that, Colleen Houck did NOT set a date for the fifth book of the Tiger’s Curse saga, so YES I am VERY afraid to finish this one. So a few weeks ago I was done with good numbers and I returned to Kelsey, Ren and Kishan’s adventure to free the tigers from Lokesh’s curse. And some readers reviews freaked me out but I have my own intuition.
I reached chapter 23 “Chimera”, page 257. I think Kishan will either be with Durga, raised to evermore immortal and a lover or Lokesh’s daughter Princess Yesubai when Lokesh dies. I think with his death and the curse being broken, all his victims will either live again or be reincarnated into other people around Kelsey. Even Mr. Kadam. I have many other theories, but one thing I will be sad if it ended [beside the series of course] is Ren and Kishan never changing into tiger’s again.
Well, I don’t know… let’s see what the end holds… *finger’s crossed* I really want Ren and Kelsey together.
[Sunday, December 08, 2013] The ending of this book disappointed me in so many levels. For 3 and 4¾ books we’ve been living in a teasing foreplay for something spicy to happen between Ren and Kelsey but nothing happened, okay they got married but the ending wasn’t satisfying. Durga and Kishan have been flirting nonstop for the two last books, I hoped the author would be strong enough to create real characters with real feelings. I mean the book would have been 100 times better if Kishan fell in love with Durga and married her, not the whole sacrifice bull! I just wasn’t enthralled by the ending.

In 2014 Colleen released a novella that set before the curse was cast. Here’s the synopsis:

My Review:
127 pages of fabulous! I really miss this series! I’m actually re-reading it again and it’s so good to get back to it. This novella was so beautiful and heartbreaking, it’s the first time I felt that Lokesh is actually evil. Yesubai broke my heart… I wish she could come back and be with Kishan in the magical realm. She is so beautiful inside and out. I really loved her. I loved to read her story and hear her voice in this series, as for the new two points of view from her mother and Ren. It was refreshing.
I LOVED the sneak-a-peek of Tiger’s Dream! I just hope that the last sentence doesn’t mean we will be stuck in another love triangle again! I vote for Yesubai to come back or to make Durga much more lovable.
Tiger’s Dream
I was despairing of ever reading the elusive fifth book! But it was released in 2018. Here’s the synopsis:

[Sunday, December 8, 2013] I just finished Tiger’s Destiny and I think this book would be about Kishan, because Ren and Kelsey had their happy ending and Ren’s curse has been broken. Or it could follow the last chapter “Rising Generation” and talk about Kishan’s dream of Ren and Kelsey’s baby boy 🙂

The Movie
Well, we’ve been hearing about the movie since 2011, and many movie concepts images were released but nothing came out of it. Let’s hope it will come soon.
In 2010, Colleen Houck partnered with producer Raphael Kryszek and Ineffable Pictures to produce the Tiger’s Curse movie. On June 1, 2011, Kryszek wrote on the Facebook Fan Page, revealing the concept art for the film on Ineffable Picture’s official website. In the frequently asked questions section of the Tiger’s Curse website it was stated that Julie Plec—famous for her work on The Vampire Diaries—was writing for the film. On December 12, 2011 it was announced that Paramount Pictures had acquired the screen rights to Tiger’s Curse. It will be produced by Mary Parent through her Disruption Entertainment banner alongside Kryszek. Houck confirmed this announcement days later, stating how thrilled she was and how thankful she was to her fans for helping make this to happen.
On November 4, 2014, Houck announced that Shekhar Kapur would be directing the film. Also, four more executive producers—Jesse Israel, Bill Johnson, Jim Seibel, D.J. Gugenheim, and Ara Keshishian—from Lotus Entertainment were revealed.
Plot synopsis: “While working at a circus over the summer, Kelsey Hayes learns that she has a powerful connection with a beautiful white tiger named Ren. When a mysterious stranger arrives to reclaim Ren and return him to his native India, Kelsey is whisked into an exotic adventure across the far reaches of the globe where she learns the powerful beast¹s true identity – a prince who is the victim of a 300-year-old curse. With the ability to periodically return to human form, Ren and Kelsey begin a journey through treacherous jungles, sacred temples and go face-to-face with dark forces as they piece together an ancient prophecy which holds the promise of breaking the curse.”
Director Shekhar Kapur is in charge of the project based on a script by Julie Plec.
As we are in December, the last month of 2020 and there are still more 3 days to the festival, I thought it proper to share with you what I have viewed so far.

Palestine Write Festival was supposed to be an actual event but with the state of the world regarding the spread of corona especially in the US where the event is held, it has been postponed and eventually it moved to an online event.

The website is amazing and very real looking, viewing Jerusalem without the Israeli occupation, the sound, images, videos, seminars that you can enter through Zoom app is very advanced and well put together.

Back in February 17, 2018, I added this book to my wish list, thinking about the cute cover. The two lovers under the umbrella were so cute.

The story is about a British actress who I imagined Lily James playing fleeing England to France to run away from her cheating husband, who is co-starring in their upcoming movie. She changes her looks and works as a waitress in her friend’s restaurant. On a dating site, she meets Paul, an American author who is also running away from his uproaring fame in San Francisco. After 6 failed publications, his publicist urges him to head to South Korea where his novels are bestsellers. Paul is in love with his Korean translator, but is afraid of flying. His best friends decide to bring him home, and the only way is for him to fall in love with a suitable girl.

I found the story cute, but not the best, it’s very simple and it has lots of great lines and ideas. It’s unique and very French. I loved how the author shed the light in North Korea all of a sudden and how that changed the story. I really liked the story of his friend who bought a cursed jewelry piece that he had to get rid of it to bring back his luck. The many paragraphs about writing are beautiful. But I didn’t like Mia, I didn’t like her friendship with Daisy, they didn’t seem like best-friends. I didn’t like it when she hid the drawing from Daisy till the end. Mia doesn’t seem like an honest person.

Why write tearjerkers just because they get you better reviews? You know what you have to do to win an Oscar these days? Play a character who’s lost an arm, or a leg, or a mother, or a father, or preferably all of the above. Make it miserable and squalid and base, so people will cry their eyes out and call you a genius, but if you inspire people or make them laugh? You’re not even under consideration when awards season rolls around. I’m sick of this cultural hegemony of depression.
هل تكتب قصص محزنة فقط للحصول على مراجعات أفضل؟ أنت تعلم ما يجب عليك فعله لتحصل على جائزة أوسكار هذه الأيام؟ ألعب دور شخصية فقدت ذراعها أو رجلها أو أمها أو أبيها، أو يفضل أن تشمل الشخصية كل ما ذكر. أجعل القصة حزينة وبائسة وزائفة حتى يبكي الناس بشدة وينادوك بالعبقري، أما إن ألهمت الناس وجعلتهم يضحكون؟ لن تنال حتى فرصة اعتبار في موسم الجوائز. مللت وزهقت من مجتمع مهيمن بالاكتئاب.
I liked the jumps and the eccentric sense in the story. My favorite part was the story of the translator, it’s very mission impossible! Don’t continue if you want to read the book! Paul’s girlfriend was a freedom fighter, she took his name but didn’t translate his books, she took them and wrote stories about life on North Korea where she ran away but she still fought for her family and other suffering countrymen. Her story is very touching, though she is cheating and stealing, I found her brave though manipulative. Paul ended up writing her story to win all that success and spread her cause.
أحببت القفزات والحس الغريب في القصة. الجزء المفضل لدي كان قصة المترجمة ، إنها تشبه أفلام المهمة المستحيلة للغاية! لا تكمل إذا كنت تريد قراءة الكتاب! صديقة بول كانت مناضلة من أجل الحرية ، أخذت اسمه لكنها لم تترجم كتبه ، وأخذتها وكتبت قصصًا عن الحياة في كوريا الشمالية حيث هربت لكنها ما زالت تقاتل من أجل عائلتها ومواطنين آخرين يعانون من الظلم. قصتها مؤثرة للغاية ، رغم أنها كانت تغش وتسرق ، إلا أنني وجدت شجاعتها رائعة رغم أنها متلاعبة. انتهى الأمر ببول بكتابة قصتها لكسب كل هذا النجاح ونشر قضيتها
The story is centered on romance, so obviously the couple ends up together!
